We are modding some Otis cars. We replaced the governor and retained the safety's. When we preform over speed test the Hollister Whitney governor arm drops contacts the rope , pulls down hits the stop and then bounces back up and is pulled down hits the stop and bounces back up again. With pull thru set around 800lbs this cycle continues without end. With pull thru set around 350lbs it will bounce once then set.We have tried 3 different governors with the same results!! We disengaged the releasing carrier to eliminate it as the cause of this problem. This car has the GT style safety plank that is a I beam vs. the 2 C-channel style. We have also observed the tail sheave to see if it was bouncing. It was not. Have any of you seen or heard of this problem before???? Thanks Dan

We have gone over the safeties and when they set the slide is good. Yes we have a new rope too. I was convinced this was a governor problem. I mean once the jaw drops and the rope pulls thru why would it rebound??? But we are making more adjustments on the safeties now?????

OK we HW brought us another gov. Same results!! They then brought us another model and it works great. Have heard of 2 other jobs 500FPM with the same model and they have the same problems as us!!!! Good Luck Dan

Do happen to have model numbers of both governors? We have a 500fpm job doing the same thing.

Yes our problem was with the 207 gov and went away when we went to the 208. We have also had the same problem with the 207 on all Hollister equipment and had to change out to the 208. They think it is a problem of the gov rope core being more tightly wound. We use Bethlehem ropes on all out jobs. They sent us a Drako rope and it was better but we still saw the problem. If your problem is happening on a 208 gov Im not sure what to say. But the test that will tell you if its safeties or gov problems is to block up safetie arm and try the test again. If it still bounces it has to be the gov.
