Hey guys, opening day at a new 4 car group of epoch 2 cars, here is the symptoms, car 1 is frt car and is on IR service , car 2 is on normal and is the master car according to the ds10 led on the mpt board, car 3 is normal and thank goodness as the tool says, however it will not answer hall calls, and finally car 4 is in block operation and running to random floors. car 2 is the only car that will answer and cancel hall calls. The only way i could get the cars all back in normal operation was to turn all cars off, and turn on each car starting with number 1, then 2,3,4. this in turn turned the frt car #1 into the master car and all is well. the book says that any car can become the master car, however when car 2 was the master, the other cars were out of the group, has anyone had any experience with this. Im not an expert on these cars, and any advice would be appreciated

...check your power supply voltages..remember working on the Mark iv equipment this was major cause for loss of group functions between cars..logic outputs had to be within tolerances.

We have found the jumpers on input and output boards (center pivot and look like a clock)in the wrong locations. If you don't know better and start swapping boards to trouble shoot you can cause yourself a lot of weird problems. If I remember correctly the prints will show the jumper location for the board location.

One thing for sure, do what Len suggested on the power supplies. The power supply is a long way from the board for the 5Volts. Measure the voltage at the EPROMS power pins. Top right is + and bottom left is (-). Make sure you have 5.2 volts there. That could read 5.7 at the power supply. The NVRAM chips on those boards shut off to battery power at 4.8Volts so keeping the 5volts up will prevent a lot of headaches.
