You can probably drift it off the bottom final. Lift the brake, you may have to help it by prying on the brake pulley.

Check your brake springs. You should be able to move the washer under the springs. They should be finger movable.

I agree, Brake failure is very possibly the culprit. The controller should have faulted, and set the brake.
