as much as some equipment is garbage to work on, is still provides jobs.

I hear ya Uppo...I've been around so long that most of what the young guys call "Garbage", I distincly remember being state of the art..

yeah broke i agree. i went thru the system in between relay logic and electronic control. i saw some really smart relay logic mechanics, of which i learned a hell of a lot, plus also some smart electronic guys as well. the new mechanics dont have a clue about non pc based lifts frankly. maybe its not their fault as time and training has changed dramatically since. i remember when our company got sold to otis, and a major overcurrent fault happened at a hospital with the first 401's in australia with the what i think was called icon drives(it could be something else). the otis and boral leading hands went to help and the otis leading hands were awe inspired as the boral leading hands stripped these drive to componant level to repair 3 lifts of 6 to go. i say this story as while the otis l/h's were very good but they were more organizers than true top shelf troubleshooters. not their fault just the way otis did it. when i tell this story our new mechanics are dumbfounded.
