On the tk cars with telescopic pistons has anyone moved the sensors away from the pistons and just had something from the crosshead break the beam? If so how'd it work if not can someone let me know why that wouldnt work. If the cross head is staying level isn't that the most important thing there?

I've seen multiple jobs that people have just taped over the sensors instead of doing a cylinder repack and valves.

You don’t have to trick it, you could just delete the IOs but it’s definitely a bad idea. With a 2 or 3 stage jack you can have a level cross head with the stages in each jack out of sync with each other. You need the sensors to trigger a resync before it gets so far out that one of the stages will top or bottom out before car gets to the floor. It can be pretty violent and rack the crap out of the car.
