hi,

Any schindler w163 experts?

we are expriencing vibration and motor noise in the top floor apartments for 5 years. the vibrations come from the motor room at the 15th floor from a w163 schindler motor with a 2:1 roping (the right one in the attached photo). the elevator company that gives service is schindler and says there is nothing wrong with the machine.

Isolation pads have been changed a year ago -rubber pads and there is no improvment.
recently they adjusted the cables and that also didnt help.

Schindler says there is noting wrong with the motor even though I specifically told them to check the Trust bearing and gear. dont know if they even checked that..

Does anyone have experience with this issue? I have contacted Getsner and they seem to have better Sylomer isolation pads and they say it will mend the problem. I also trying to see if slowing the machine from 1.6m/sec to 1..

Anyone with experience with this issue? it appered only 5-6 years ago in a 20yo building..

We had a similar issue back in the late 90s, you need to request they bring in a PMT vibration measuring device, along with a tech who knows how to use it. The local office should have one because for years Lerch Bates (Biggest elevator consulting firm in US) required testing results with them. In our case it had to do with the building harmonics and we had to adjust the drive frequency and it went away. Now this case it was a modernization and with new motors on existing traction machines and new controller. You equipment looks like its been around more than 5 years, but the PMT has a handheld sensor that they can find exactly where the vibration is originating

If they tell you they don't have one, hope a local elevator consultant who does. Vibrations travel funning, it may not be the machine , it may be as simple as a guide roller or a sheave bearing.

You could also contact PMT and ask them if they have any local elevator companies that do have their tools.

If they say they don’t have a PMT get another elevator company

Cables where retensioned lately. Will ask about pmt..

I am almost sure it is the machine mesh as the vibration i feel in the apartment correlates with the wormgear speed..

It doesnt seem to have play in the thrust bearing.
For now i will see how it is after replacing the rubber isolation pads with sylomer ones.

Also i will tell the company to change oil since they dont have any idea when it was last changed..
if all fails i will tell the company to decrease the speed of the machine..

I hope the vibration doesnt pass to the hitch plates. They are isolated also with rubber and changing them to sylomer seems hard

Anyone have experience with the sylomer isolation pads? They are 5 cm thick..
