Hey guys, i have had 2 mechanics call me in the last 2 weeks regarding access problems with a 311, they both say that they can access the car up or down, but when they get on cartop inspect and go through the hatch and come back up, the car will no longer access from the top landing. i have not had a chance to look into it yet, so i thought maybe some one has a solution and cause for this. they have to get into the car and put back on normal, then all is well until they do the access routine again.

Hey Scotty, is it the same 311? or two different and a coincidence?

2 cars are in the same building in redondo beach, and one is in downtown

Is it the ones in Redondo in that condo on the sand I adjusted/inspected a few years ago for Amtech? They are 311M's? Not GEM's (new construction)? Originally Westinghouse?

yes thats the one, I know it has worked before because i have worked on them, the mechanic called today and notified me that both cars do the same thing now, also Kc just told me he had one do the same thing but it started working and he does not know what happened

What does the SVT say? Check that it is counting in both directions. Verify the access limit value is valid (ie cab ht). The normal limit is actually when the ets, nts and flor vane aare all active. The only hard switches should be the finals. On a new const there may be a up access limit so you dont hit your head on the ceiling but that is only for the TOC. But you never know.

i would make sure your encoder is counting in both directions. it updates at a floor vane. but i would check that it is hitting the vanes 100%. if it misses (even one sensor) it will need to go down to the bottom and reset off of the bottom ets, nts and floor vane. TOC has precedents and access is more into the normal operation. I would bet youre missing a vane in the hatch while on the car top.

the mechanic didnt have a svt, I believe he says that he gets in to the car at the next to top landing and turns on normal and the car runs, didnt say anything about running to the bottom floor to reset, Ill check thanks

Opening door locks while in flight can cause the LMCSS to need a reposition happens to inspectors all the time.

As stated before-one of the main reasons this happens is when the car loses its position in the hoistway-slip traction. It doesnt have to be much but if you are checking door locks and it slips a little it will cause this. It could also be because you are getting an overspeed for the particular speed you are running on access-had this happen a bit also 🙂

Finally went to check on this job, the mechanic swears both cars did the same thing, however when I was testing the situation, I could not get the car to fail, we tried some of the tips you guys gave but could not duplicate. Open locks in flight, etc. I asked exactly what the mechanic did while on car top inspect, he mentioned that he was cleaning the door zone sensors which were dusty. We tried blocking sensors at various times in hoist way but still could not duplicate problem. Finally I logged on to system and checked the log and there were some loss of position errors on the day he was there. Here are the errors
Psr 2103
Psr 1ls error. 2108
2708. Mls reinit
Saf dbp2806
We tried many times to try and duplicate his problem with no luck. Very strange

Not strange at all if he ran a rag through the position transducers the controller will lose count and think it's lost and need a reinit depending on where and how many times he did it. Never do that with the power on just use a little canned air.

That would cause the issue you are referring to-if while moving the car he blocks the DZ transducers he will get an extra floor count.
