One of our guys has an older Otis unit the will not open the doors when the hall button is pushed if the car is sitting at that floor. Only happens at one floor, others are fine. Says it gets direction but the doors don't open. Also told me that it will open the doors at that floor when a car accessed at another floor and a car call is registered. Any idea?

A 20ucl is a slate board geared machine.. If your still having problems post the wiring diagram number from the controller data tag. I can probably help you. Also are there any extended panels that have been added by a Mod?

Guys, NT only picks up if the car RUNS or the door gets signal to open. He says the car is sitting at the floor and won't open the doors. The Relay XDR is in series with the hall call brushes sitting at the floor, and an F3 resistor for up calls and F2 resistor for down calls. XDR picks up SG, SG picks up NT in turn to open doors. If NT was the problem it would not open doors on a run.

BRG,
Am I reading his post correctly?

Is he saying the car will only respond to car calls at this one floor?

Will the car run to that floor from a hall call?
Are the up or down floor relays picking for that floor?

If it only happens at one floor will it pick up the call if running by the floor? If it does the reset side of hall call coil is ok. If not check the uhr, or dhr brushes on the floor selector and the reset side of hall call coil. Does the XDR relay pick but doors don't open at that floor?

Hey Rolly, is there much difference between the 10 and 20 ucl control? We don't have a XDR, SG relays on ours to get NT, so I assume it goes thru the reset UHR/DHR brush to pick HST to then get NT to pick and in turn DO. Is this right?

Well there is a huge difference between a 10UCL and a 20UCL. 20 is slate board with the relays mounted on the slate. The slate controllers were 20's and 50's. The 10-21-30UCL's are later version controllers with 6850 selectors, and 6164BP relays. Also anytime there is an "S" at the end of the UCL (UCLS), the relays are 6164's and Slimline type telephone relays. The 20's and 50's had floor selectors with large carbon contacts. Can you find a data tag with a wiring diagram number on it? There is a good chance the reset coil is open or the uhr dhr brushes are not making at that floor, or you have a bad selector travel cord.

Ah thanks mate, not sure I have seen a 20 or 50 UCL type. Yes I was definitely referring to a 1971 install of a 10 UCL controller via the print and a 6850 selector. From what I saw it does look like a brush or reset coil issue. Thanks again.

Thanks mate.

Edit: ah right now I know what you are talking about. Indeed I have seen these, particularly in low rise buildings. I can see the XDR relay now and its influence. Thanks again gents.
