Does anyone know where to buy a Otis T-Handle door open tool for center parting doors?

I think I seen one in the SEES catalog. I'll get back to you.

You can make your own with 3/16 stiff wire. Bend heart shape about 3-4 inches across at the widest part, from the middle run about 12-14 inches then bend a "T" handle. Hope this is what you need. Used to open car door from hall door side when car is stalled at or close to floor.

It's funny, I ran into a repair guy a few days ago that had a door tool just as you described. Thanks for the tip.

Too many fingers got broken using a tool like that... you won't see OTIS' name on one...

I've never heard that before. I guess that's why they're not standard issue to Otis guys.

We have been opening many unpickable doors, otis and others, side slide and center opening for many years with just a piece of stiff wire. The key is to bend the wire in a rectangular style a little wider then the doors thickness, and have one end long enough to reach the pick up roller assembley, you just insert and feel pickup assembley and pull back to unlock. It helps if you have one pre made on a particular job. you have some one in the car and the other person out in the hall with the pick, and you adjust the dimensions accordingly. we then leave one pick in each machine room in case of emergency. so far it has paid big dividends in getting trapped passenger out in a timely manner, especially if you do not know how to open the doors electrically, or the car is away from the door zone. I personally usually rely on using the print to remedy the situation, but under pressure this could help. The t handle opener has worked on occassion, but usually it can not fit between the hall door gap without prying the door, and once your past the hall door it is hard to squeeze between the car door and then twist to open. It can work in certain situations, but in my experience it more of a pain then a help. just my opinion. any other thoughts out there in elevator land

I am still trying to imagine how fingers get broken using this device. Please pass on this information regarding this situation as it may help a elevator brother from such an injury. thanks sd

thanks bk2fla, I hope i didn,t come across as trying to be a smart ass, I really did not know how a finger injury could occur with the use of this tool. thanks i am sure it will help someone out there who reads this to be careful using the tool or just not use it at all. I would rather someone stay in the car a little longer than to lose a finger trying expedite the matter. be safe think safe every day every job
