We are looking into servicing some Otis Gen 2s soon. Does anyone know how frequently the hoist belts need to be replaced and how long it takes to complete? Also, there is a rumor going around that if Otis loses a job they will take the rope tension monitoring device off the job. Is there any validity to this rumor? Any information is greatly appreciated! I will post some pictures of the equipment in the gallery.

The monitors have been removed a lot around here-even on our "O" contracts. the belts just need to be cleaned with soap and water only when they get really dirty. If you dont have a service tool and the training I would not recommend taking them under service. If they have the new GCS updated software baselines installed the MECS tool will not work.

never had a problem with belts. Just tension them once and forget about it. The belt monitors have been left on some jobs and some have been removed when otis looses the job. I guess it all depeneds on who's in charge . I have also heard of a customer purchasing the monitor from otis because they lost the job and it was somewhere in the range of 10k.

I was told by the State that Otis is supposed to print out the belt monitoring results for each job or perform a Magnetic Flux Test on the belts each year to satisfy the experimental variance they have on this equipment. Have you ever heard of this and what is a Magnetic Flux Test of the hoist belts?

It sends a signal down one strand of cable in the belt and monitors the returning signal in another strand-

The belt monitor doesn't give a read out but u can monitor the information if you have a service tool. If you don't have the belt monitor u are supposed to use that flux tool once a year. The tool is really expensive , otis even has the option of renting the flux tool from them. It was too much of a hassle on a global scale so they came up with the "pulse monitor" u have pictured .
