How are you trying to adjust it? What type of kone system is it?

The monospace uses a sensor under the car that is set to a certain gap between the sensor and a piece of steel mounted to the isolation platform for a zero reference. You have what sounds like an ecospace. It probably has a small board mounted inside of the controller. If the jumpers are in the wrong configuration you will not be able to set the loadweigher. If the cpu is seeing 124% load then you're not going to be able to run on automatic, it thinks it's overloaded. BTW 5-1 is a read-only parameter.

The strain gauge is mounted on the dead-end hitch in the top of the hoistway.

You'll be replacing the strain gauge in the end. If it's not the board it's the strain gauge
