Position Overview
A Building Project Coordinator recommends and inspects contract work involving the maintenance, renovation and repair of City-owned buildings. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed at maintenance sites where there are hazards from chemical fumes, steam leaks and heights. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
This position will oversee a number of repair and maintenance projects, especially those dealing with elevators in City-owned buildings.
Examples of Work
Inspects the work of contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications;
Evaluates requests for and makes recommendations on the repair, alteration and maintenance of City-owned buildings and grounds including internal utilities;
Inspects the work of contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications;
Expedites the completion of contract work and recommends payment to contractors;
Conducts special inspections of elevators and related devices to investigate and resolve issues related to complaints and accidents;
Prepares reports of findings to include recommendations for correction of deficiencies;
Inspects elevators in order to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and codes pertaining to the operation, maintenance, repair and safety of these devices;
Education and Experience
Requirements - Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and five years of experience in overseeing building construction and maintenance work including experience in reviewing contract drawings and plans, specifications and preparing cost estimates.
Equivalencies - Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidate Desirables
-Previous experience in inspecting/repairing elevators
-Knowledge of the proper methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and operation of elevators
-Knowledge of the methods used in measuring cubic footage, square footage, pressure per square inch, distances, electricity and illumination
-Ability to work well independently
-Knowledge of building renovation and maintenance methods and materials.
-Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, plans and specifications
-Ability to prepare cost estimates
-Ability to evaluate requests for renovation or maintenance work
-Ability to deal effectively with others
-Ability to maintain records and write reports
