Are there any special tools needed to rebuild an I-2 valve? Special extractors, wrenches or what not?

Only a face spanner to remove the valve stems, very simple valve to rebuild. TK sells a little wrench for this, I'll see if I can find the part #

Of course you could get them off with Channel Locks or something, they shouldn't be that tight.
